I hope everyone had a great new years celebration and that you are ready for an exciting new year of SunJUG presentations. As you may or may not know Dave has passed the SunJUG torch back to me so he can pursue a Ph.D. As I'm building out the distribution list please forward this to anyone you believe would benefit from the SunJUG and have them contact me to be added to future mailings. If you are interested in presenting please contact me as well, so I can get it scheduled. Presenting before your peers has professional benefits, so I would encourage you to try it in the relaxed setting of the SunJUG even if you have not presented before or feel uncomfortable presenting. We promise not to count your "uhs" like Toastmasters
Just be prepared to answer questions form the Grand Master "dojo" Tim http://www.linkedin.com/pub/tim-crowley/6/703/a49.
I also have several things in the hopper from using Google Guice http://code.google.com/p/google-guice, AOP and a annotation for simple transaction management to web mining using a Turing complete http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_completeness solution for the ETL process. I'm never at a loss to fill in as there are so many cool technologies to explore, but I'd rather not make it SteveJUG if possible (although that has interesting connotations considering my brewing experience).
January's topic will be Spock http://code.google.com/p/spock presented by John Thompson, President / CTO, Galene Technologies, Inc. http://www.linkedin.com/in/jt1088. I met John recently at a cigar gathering and he's a sharp guy, so I'm sure everyone will learn something.
The agenda consists of:
- What is spock
- Who is using spock
- Intro to Groovy
- Basic when then test
- Given, when, then
- Using where (a wiki like syntax to loop over a set of conditions)
- Using Groovy Mocks
- Using Spock Mocks
- Real world examples
Food and beverages will be provided by Chuck Waygood of TEKsystems. Chuck is a great guy, so if you are looking for employment prospects get in contact with him. http://www.linkedin.com/in/chuckwaygood
Something new this year will be a sampling of my California Common home brew. A hybrid style – a highly hopped, pale lager fermented at ale temperatures, exhibiting earthy hop bitterness and aroma, caramel malt, and a pale copper color with a clean, crisp profile. First come, first serve (FIFO).
The event will be hosted by Community Foundation of Sarasota, located at 2635 Fruitville Rd, Sarasota, FL 34237, which is west of exit 210 off I75.
